MOAB UTAH 2006
We went to Moab this past weekend for a fun time. A buddy at Scott's work wanted to go and invited us to come with them. It is one of my kids favorite vacation spots so we decided to do it. We had a wonderful time. The weather was a little rainy but it was great because it made the hikes bearable. The BIG hike for us hiking to Delicate Arch. It is a 3 mile hike straight up the mountain. But the kids did wonderful!!! If you have never taken the hike to Delicate Hike I would recommend it. It was SPECTACULAR!!! You come around a bend and there it is sitting tall and magnificent. We sure enjoyed this hike.
If you look at the people in the middle you can see how big the arch really is. On the other side of the arch is a big cliff. I had to keep telling the kids not to get to close. It was a little scary for a mom but the kids enjoyed climbing the rocks and being here.
Britton on our hike. He was our water holder.

Come on family- I know Treyson you are tired.
I was amazed at how well Treyson hiked up to the arch. He is a fast little runner. When he got to the top he enjoyed seeing the Arch. The Hike back however was another story. He kept wanting to sit down and told me he needed NEW legs to make it back down. So I put him on my back and we hurried down.

Ashlyn and Mommy on our Delicate Arch Hike

When we got done with the hike we had to wait for the other family to get down. So we took a little jaunt to see these Ute Rock Art. They were done between 1650 and 1850 AD. The kids enjoyed it especially Ashlyn since she has learned about the Indians this year in school.

We went on many hikes during our few days there. We saw Landscape Arch, Skyline Arch, Sand Dune Arch, Windows Arches, Balanced Rock, Double Arch and Pine Tree Arch. We basically saw every arch that was near by. It was way fun.

On one of our hikes they had this sandstone sand slide. The kids would
run up and down it.

Getting ready for our small hike to the windows
Britton climbing the rocks. I think my kids enjoy this trip so much because they love climbing the rocks. It is fun to see how high they can get. I just have to learn to relax and let them be kids.
Brielle on our hike

The kids favorite hike was a short .3 mile hike to Sand Dune Arch. It was a small arch but below it was a huge sandbox for them to play in. It was all red sandstone sand and the kids played under the arch in the sand for an hour. Next time we will bring shovels and buckets. Some other people there let the kids play with their stuff. Brielle really enjoyed EATING all the Red sand.

Sand Dune Arch
Overall the trip was SOOO much fun. We hiked and played and went swimming in the morning and night. We enjoyed going out to eat and being with friends. Scott also enjoyed taking the bikes with his friends to Slick Rock. It was a lot harder than he thought it would be. But he had a great time. The girls were going to go the next morning but we awoke to RAIN!!! Lots of it. By the time we checked out of the hotel though the rain had stopped and it made a beautiful day to hike delicate arch.
